I took a piece of bread to see if the fly was attracted... I was surprised. It stayed there for about 20 minutes and I could get very close (about 2 inches) without scaring it.

I think next time I'll use a flash !!!

I am looking to buy a macro lens and stumbled on a review you made on the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and basically you sold me. :) This is an amazing shot and I can't wait to get it to be taking some of my very own. Which extension tube did you use by the way? And did you use a handheld flash or a macro ring? Thanks much for showing me what the lens can do! AMAZING SHOT!

Hi there! Thanks for your comment and for the fav :)

I bought the Kenko extension tube set (review here: [link] ) Their quality is the same as Canon tubes, for less than half of Canon's price. I bought them here: [link]=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=375102&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

That brings maginifcation of the EF 100mm f/2.8 to 1.72x instead of 1x. But a lot of light is lost... so a flash is more than welcome. I didn't use any flash for this shot (but I should have). I expect to buy a macro ring flash pretty soon (Canon MT-24EX)

See ya!

Sweet deal, thanks for the info. I've seen the tubes used, just wasn't too sure on the main purpose. I'm also looking into getting a macro ring flash. Its so awesome to view the world from a different perspective.

Salut!

Ciao ciao

Great detail! Love the fine hairs on its back.
I would've liked to see it in colour.
